The children's village has gained an imaginary new dimension
Thanks to a special donation, the idea of a therapeutic playground could be realized: The existing playground, located in the middle of the children's houses and which had become outdated, was redesigned and expanded.
During joint workshops and model building with the AOHM team and children in March, the topic was chosen: the wildlife of Tanzania.
Under the shade of the large acacia tree, not only wooden animal figures were created, but also a wide variety of elements for balancing, hiding, swinging, seesawing, climbing, crawling, hopping, a play shop, a bus stop and much more. Besides providing ample opportunities and challenges for developing motoric skills, the aim was also to create imaginative spaces for creative and individual play.
Except for few special parts, the playground was built entirely from locally sourced materials, including the hand-woven nest swing.
The playground project has been completed since mid-October and is being discovered and played on by children of all ages (and staff!) around the clock.
The team of experienced playground designers Tom Thomas (Dresden) and Stephan Drese (Seelingstädt), together with the Tanzanian craftsmen around Simon Mbinde and the painter Manyatta from Iringa, has created a dreamlike place!
