As every year in November, we reported on the progress and new developments in the Mbigili Children's Village during an information weekend. All association members and sponsors, as well as anyone else who is interested, are always welcome to attend.
"Opportunity to be a child, opportunity for education, opportunity for a self-determined life" was the theme of the presentation about the children’s village. It included a contribution from last year’s volunteers, Karla Lettgen and Jurena Langer. Jurena’s parents accompanied us on their journey to the children’s village. The presentation highlighted recent renovations, including the repaired roofs of the children’s houses, and introduced the newly built washing area for the house mothers and children. Above all, we are especially proud after 16 years of Mbigili Children’s Village to share the success stories of young adults who have completed vocational training and now have stable jobs—each one having taken their own path toward a self-determined life.

The former volunteers shared their experiences from their time at the children’s village and presented the children’s book project 'Emma', written by German author Heidi Leenen and brought to life in collaboration with the 'Du bist wertvoll' Foundation. On Saturday afternoon over cake and coffee and on Sunday over a delicious soup, there was a lively exchange of ideas. New ideas were spun that could help the Mbigili Children's Village move forward. As every year, there was also a stand with wonderful handicrafts—beautiful knitted socks, heat pads, and much more for the cold season.
