Amani Orphans Home Mbigili - A safe home with hope for the future

The children’s village is the heart of our work in Tanzania. The village family consists of around 80 children who grow up in a safe and nurturing environment, living across six homes. Each home is cared for by a dedicated housemother and an assistant—creating a stable, family-like structure that provides children with security, reliability, and a true sense of belonging.

In their daily lives, the children experience a balanced rhythm of school, chores on the farm and around the house, leisure time, shared meals, and loving care. They receive medical attention, psychological support, and individualized guidance. Above all, they learn what it means to be truly seen, heard, and valued.

The children’s village is a place of belonging—but also a place of growth. Here, children don’t just live; they are free to be children. And that is exactly our goal: dignity, opportunities, and a temporary home that truly supports them. A place they can always return to—no matter the path they take.

Cow and Goat Barn

Here, cows and goats live as neighbors, separated from each other in their barns. They are taken out together in the morning by a farm worker and walk around the grounds as a large group.

Farm building

Chicken Coop

Our chickens live here. They have access to two large indoor rooms and a fenced outdoor enclosure. In a separate small house, feed is stored, and the little chicks are born and raised here. The chicken coop especially offers children the opportunity to visit the chickens, accompanied by volunteers or caregivers.

vegetable garden

Our own farm is a central part of our self-sufficiency concept. The harvested produce covers most of the daily demand for fruits and vegetables. Depending on the time of year—dry season or rainy season—staples such as rice and maize are supplemented through purchases in nearby towns, ensuring a consistent and nutritious supply throughout the year.

Pigsty

Our pigs live in the middle of the greenery, not far from the farm. Guided by their caregivers, children care for one pig or even several themselves.

Playground

In the heart of the children's village under a large acacia tree, is our playground with a treehouse: This was the beginning of a playground early on, and now, since 2025, it is surrounded by play equipment. The therapeutic playground is intended to help children explore their strengths, let off steam, and develop motoric skills.

Wooden Shelter for Animal Feed

This is mainly where hay is stored, but also, for example, bamboo from the farm as food for the animals.

Rainwater cisterns

Here, the house mothers always have the option to draw water if the running water from the tap stops for a short time due to power outages.
