Interested in a long-term commitment? We're looking for you!

At the Amani Orphans Home Mbigili, you can dedicate yourself as a volunteer for 13 months – in cooperation with the SCI (Service Civil International) and supported by the weltwärts programme of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation.

You’ll be working with children from infancy through their teenage years. Your responsibilities are diverse: you’ll support activities in the kindergarten, design recreational programs, and provide individual support to children. At the same time, you’ll be fully integrated into the Tanzanian team and maintain close contact with our association in Germany. As a volunteer, you’ll also have the opportunity to pursue your personal strengths and interests—beyond work with children, including in ecological or handicraft projects.

The volunteer service offers you far more than work experience: you’ll grow through your responsibilities, discover your strengths, and immerse yourself in a new culture. Many former volunteers remain part of the Mbigili family to this day—a testament to the unique bond that develops here. It’s a meaningful break from everyday life, giving you distance from the familiar and offering insight into different ways of living and thinking.

Are you wondering whether a voluntary international year is right for you? You've come to the right place if you ...

  • have completed secondary education and/or vocational training.
  • You are between 18 and 28 years old.
  • are ready to commit to 13 months of service in a country in the Global South.
  • You are creative, flexible, and resilient.
  • are socially engaged and have experience working with children and young people.
  • interested in other cultures, adaptable, and willing to learn.
  • are ready to work in a Christian environment.
  • are willing to educate yourself on topics such as everyday racism, cultural sensitivity, and anti-colonialism before your departure and during your volunteer service.
  • You have knowledge of the local language or, above all, are willing to learn the language in the country.
  • are prepared to provide regular reports about your International Year of Volunteering.
  • you are willing to get involved in our association after your voluntary service.

Sponsorship -
direct assistance, lasting connections

Through your sponsorship, you strengthen the Amani Orphans Home in Tanzania: You help ensure that children and young people grow up in a safe environment—with access to education, nutritious food, medical care, and reliable support. Your consistent support provides them with security and opens up additional opportunities for their personal development.

As a sponsor through a monthly or one-time donation—you make a vital contribution to the lives and education of the children in Mbigili. By doing so, you help pave the way for them to build independent, self-determined lives.

Individual sponsorships are a vital part of our work. At the same time, we are deeply committed to strengthening the children’s village as a whole. Only when all the children, house mothers, and families receive support together can lasting stability be achieved—essential for sustainable development. Whether you choose to sponsor a child individually, remain anonymous as a sponsor, or support the entire children’s village on a regular basis, you become part of a community that opens up new perspectives for children in Tanzania. Help where your heart leads you:

Charity work - Your support makes a difference

In our association, we volunteer from Germany to support Amani Orphans Home Mbigili—a place that offers children safety, education, and new opportunities. To secure their daily lives, care, and future, we organize creative fundraising initiatives and support the project with dedication and passion.

Many of us have a personal connection to the project and regularly contribute our time, ideas, and commitment. To do this, we rely on financial assistance and support within our team—a contribution that is just as important as that of the volunteers on site.

Get involved—in your own way.

Whether large or small, one-time or regular: every contribution counts. You can organize charity events, launch school campaigns, organize a sponsored run, or collect donations online. Perhaps you would like to ask for donations instead of gifts for a birthday, wedding, or even a funeral. This can also be a valuable contribution.

You decide how you want to get involved—with what suits you and what is important to you. Whether as part of our association or with a one-time campaign: we appreciate any form of support.

Together, we are building a brighter future for the children in Mbigili!

We would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported our association—either in the past or present—with their time, commitment, and energy.

Your voluntary commitment, your ideas, and your willingness to help have been essential in making our work possible. Without this diverse support, much of what we do would simply not have been feasible.
